    Brief History

The 2010 Formula One season saw Korea hold their first ever Formula One race weekend to great success.

Again like all the newer circuits in the F1 calendar the Yeongam circuit was designed by German architect Hermann Tilke. With a fantastic waterside location, the circuit is situated in the fairly rural South Jeolla region, 400 kilometres from the Korean capital, Seoul.

Following Abu Dhabi’s example and lead, race organisers, Korea Auto Valley Operation and local and national government agencies plan to develop the area surrounding the circuit, with a high-tech business park and residential and leisure facilities.

Korea have hosted major sporting events in the past, with both the 1988 Olympics and the 2002 World Cup, which was co-hosted with Japan, having been held there.
