Brief History

For 2008 the European Formula One Grand Prix changed venues from Germany to Spain, with a new circuit being designed and built by German circuit architect Hermann Tilke, around the streets of Valencia incorporating the port area.

In August 2008, Valencia’s recently-revamped marina area held its very first Formula One Grand Prix. The race was won by Felipe Massa in a Ferrari, after starting from pole position.

The new Valencia street circuit incorporates a total of 25 turns, 11 right-handers and 14 left-handers, testing the drivers to the maximum. At one point the drivers even cross over Valencia’s canal, using a 140 metre swing bridge.
