Brief History

The Chinese Grand Prix is held in Shanghai, the eighth largest city in the world, at the Shanghai International Circuit. The track which was designed and built by circuit architects Hermann Tilke and Peter Wahl, is shaped like the Chinese character ‘shang’, which stands for ‘high’ or ‘above’.

The circuit held it’s first Formula one race weekend on the 26th September 2004, and was won by Rubens Barrichello in a Ferrari.

The circuit includes seven left and seven right-hand turns. This array of different winding turns makes this a high demanding circuit on the driver as well as the car. Plus, on the longest straight, drivers can reach a top speed of 327 km/p (204.4 mph), offering great overtaking opportunities.

The Main Grandstand seats 29,000 spectators and provides a spectacular view of almost 80 percent of the circuit.
