Red Bull Racing have been handed a 5,000 euro fine after the unsafe release of Mark Webber, which resulted in his wheel coming off.

Webber had come into the pits after his earlier collision with Toro Rosso driver Jean-Eric Vergne, however upon leaving the pits his team radioed to say his tyre was loose and to slowly make his way back to the pits. His tyre came off at the end of the back straight causing a yellow flag situation.

Team boss Christian Horner said “After changing the nose and all four tyres, Mark reported a problem with the right rear on the out lap, which had certainly left the pit lane fully torqued up.”

“The right rear then came detached from the car and caused Mark to retire. Until we get the car back, it’s not possible to yet conclude the exact cause.”
